British Homes Awards
Homing in on excellence
“The British Homes Awards reflect the very best of British industry. They continue to demonstrate that the most forward-thinking, imaginative and innovative designs do not have to result in sterile, abstract places – but instead can help to shape great places to live, with a real sense of character and identity”Rt Hon Margaret Beckett MPFormer Minister for Housing and Planning
I am pleased that the winning design, Santiago, is built as one of the three show houses at this year’s Ideal Home Show and by inviting newspaper readers to vote for a winning design, the Awards truly engage with our communities. The Rt. Hon. Grant ShappsMP Minister for Housing and Local Government
Now in partnership with Britain’s most read quality newspaper, The Sunday Times, The British Homes Awards champion best practice by recognising exemplars across specific categories and have been expanded to recognise and endorse build quality in construction. Sponsored by Premier Guarantee, The British Homes BuildQuality Awards complement the established categories for design, promoting those completed schemes that best achieve the creative aspirations of the architect.
Integral to the Awards is an annual design competition which in partnership with RIBA and BRE have catalysed the process of change, engaging with key industry partners to inspire innovation in the way we design and build our homes and landscapes, creating a successful legacy.
In partnership with RIBA, BRE,The New Homes Marketing Board and FutureForm the 2011 design competition challenged architects to create the 21st century’s answer to the classical Regency and Georgian terraced town house embracing FutureForm’s innovative light gauge steel, volumetric, energy efficient modular construction system, the flexibility of which is best exemplified by the outstanding CUB House, recently opened at The BRE Innovation Park . The design brief can be found here.
From the 24 designs submitted, the panel of judges, chaired by Past President of RIBA, Sunand Prasad, short-listed 5:
